Jim
About Jim:
My name is Jim, I’m 15, and I attend Landau Forte College in Derby. I wanted to enter this photo because I felt the story of change behind it was very powerful; it emphasizes the importance that people not only recognize the problems surrounding them, but also take positive steps to help. The competition appealed to me mainly because of the work CHANGEit are currently doing to encourage young people to bring about change.
About Jim’s photo:

This is a famous bridge in Dovedale, the Peak District. We can only enjoy the beauties of this bridge and its idyllic surroundings thanks to the personal campaign of Mr F.A. Holmes of Buxton. In 1916, he became concerned about damage to areas in the Peak District from tree-felling activities. After many months of restless campaigning, he managed to halt the commercial felling through a contact in Parliament. In 1951, the Peak National Park was established. The Peak District has long been a source of inspiration for writers, painters and poets alike. Without Mr Holmes’ selfless campaigning, we may not have been able to enjoy the natural wonders of Dovedale today.
