About Sophia:
Hi! My name is Sophia and I currently live in London. While I was born in Japan, I’ve lived in a succession of places, including the United States and Germany. Having a multi-cultural background has made me receptive to the many perspectives that exist out there.
When I heard about the CHANGEit Photography opportunity, I realized, ‘where better than London to be inspired by community change?’ I chose this photo because of the moment that it captures: a little girl smiling the biggest smile I’ve seen on someone in a very long time.
I really believe in the power of positive change in transforming lives and mentalities. Change can happen in all sizes. Even the smallest change has the potential to make the largest impression.
About Sophia’s photo:
This year, our school’s National Honour Society has decided to reach out to the community and make even bigger impacts to help everyone from Kindergarten to senior year. Among plans to volunteer in the school community, a student-run tutoring program is being implemented to help any student in his/her classes. After all, even one hand reached out can make all the difference.
